– Kotaku, Owen Good: Is “Morning Wood” Really a Map Name in Modern Warfare 3’s First DLC? [November 26th, 2011] Yeah, alright, “Morning Wood” does sound a little iffy, so we’ll give you that, but the inclusion of a map name from a previous game doesn’t call for any...

A Post About Spoiler Alerts, for the Easily...
Apparently there’s been some confusion about my post earlier this week concerning Kotaku’s inclusion of a spoiler alert in a republished article about Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. A couple of people - incomprehensibly bizarre individuals with the reading skills of a recently concussed mollusk - read this post from earlier in the week and came to the rather bizarre conclusion...

Widely assumed "confirmation" of MGS5 wasn't... →
Turns out I don’t have to do a write-up about the Metal Gear Solid 5 fiasco. semprafi rather nicely covers it here: Destructoid: “Metal Gear Solid 5 is NOT confirmed … yet”, November 21st, 2011 Kotaku: “Is Metal Gear Solid 5 Coming? “Probably…At Some Point”, November 21st, 2011 GameInformer: “Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed [Update]”, November 21st, 2011 Giant Bomb: “Turns Out Metal Gear...

MGS 5 news was false alarm →
ronworkman: Note from Ron: Where did the word “Confirmed” come from on all of these websites? Very good question. I may well write about this later, if I have a spare hour.

Rimmer: After intensive investigation, comma, of the markings on the alien pod, comma, it has become clear, comma, to me, comma, that we are dealing, comma, with a species of awesome intellect, colon. Holly: Good. Perhaps they might be able to give you a hand with your punctuation. Rimmer: Shut up.

semprafi: The number of times I’ve watched this over the past few days and shaken my head at its sad veiled truthfulness, rather than LOLing at the hilarity, is staggering. It’s still brilliant though; there really are no words. Bravo, Mega64. It was flawless. 9 out of 10. Only a 9 out of 10? Look, I haven’t watched the video yet, but I know it’s worth at least a 9.5.

Apologies for the radio silence over the last week
I spent most of last week lifting heavy boxes and not being anywhere near a computer, so I haven’t had the opportunity to actually blog (although I have been tweeting a fair bit). In fact my sole post last week was this reblog of a We Hate Games post. This week is going to be equally busy. I’ve been doing a lot of writing work elsewhere and it’s eating into the time I can commit...

Skyrimjobbed: Kuchera vs. Bethesda
wehategames: So, a prominent gaming journalist, let’s call him Ben K… no, that’s to obvious, let’s call him B Kuchera, reviewed a game from a prominent publisher. To protect the innocent, let’s say the publisher’s name rhymes with “Frethesda” who made a game called Rage. Said game was poorly reviewed by said journo. And now, with said publisher’s latest and greatest game coming out, let’s call...

Should be fun. Challenging, but fun. Once again I’ll be asking friends to help out with production and equipment, as I did with the first pilot, but I’ve already bought the game in question and it should arrive in the next few days. Exciting! If you haven’t done so already, watch the pilot, and if you like it please consider pledging a few bucks to help make the full season a...

[SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION] In which I respond to... →
One of the common arguments people make when discussing the subject of the state of game journalism with me is that gamers are themselves responsible for the poor level of journalism they receive, that their sense of entitlement is solely to blame for the sort of shit posted by IGN, Kotaku, et al. I respond to this argument in this week’s op-ed piece for The DamnLag. Which is nice....
