I wanted to share a comment posted on the Gizmodo article by “feral.nsfw”, because it’s inevitably going to get deleted some time tonight and it’s simply too brilliant to let get eaten by web ghosts:
When I saw an IM from a girl named Alyssa that said, “You should go out with me :)” I was relieved. She seemed normal. I gave her my name. “Google...

Bloody Hell - Kotaku Australia tears Gizmodo's... →
Well that’s a turn-up for the books, isn’t it? I’ve heard rumours that Kotaku Australia is, on occasion, quite tolerable. If they’re prepared to attack their partner sites, they’ve just climbed a notch or two on the Respect-O-Meter.
Thanks to bulleye4 on Twitter for the link.

– A comment left on my Facebook wall by Dino Andrade, voice actor and founder of geek dating site SoulGeek.com (not to mention damned good friend), in response to Alyssa Bereznak’s utterly indefensible article about dating Magic: The Gathering world champion Jon Finkel.

Gizmodo's Alyssa Bereznak goes on a date with... →
I’m not going to tear Bereznak a new one for being shallow - that’s not what this blog is for - but I will give her Hell her for deciding to publicly shit on a guy simply because he’s a Magic: The Gathering world champion, as though having shared drinks with him occasionally gives her the right to say “Hey, I dated him! He’s a fucking dork!” publicly like that.

I kind of dropped the ball with the IGN article. It does raise an interesting point, and women were more important in 1947 then you might think. But besides that, the question of whether or not women deserve more prominence in a fictional narrative set in a misogynistic past is in itself an important conversation to have.
Apologies if my initial reaction and post rubbed anyone the wrong way....

There’s the occasional housewife or shoe shop clerk to interview and, of course, the furiously messed up drug-addict nightclub singer Elsa (who, of course, becomes Cole’s mistress, although how or why is never really made clear). Centre stage is given to the men, to Cole and his colleagues, while the women are just the extras, looking on while the important men do important men...

Sony announces new PSP
– Headline for a Bit-Tech/BitGamer news post about, wait for it, a new model of the original PSP. A little bit misleading, isn’t it?
Incidentally, little message for Luke Plunkett - you don’t put out a new revision of a piece of hardware that you plan to have “taken out back and...

CVG: “Rockstar’s mysterious ‘Citizen Skywatch’ site suggests reveal”, August 15th, 2011
However, the whois log for CitizenSkywatch.com also drags Rockstar into the mix with the GTA developer cropping up in a server name … Of course, just because Rockstar’s name pops up on a server title doesn’t mean that Citizen Skywatch is anything to do with, oh we don’t know, GTA V but we’ve...

A Hypothetical Conversation
MCV's Chris Dring: Why do you think Resident Evil is the game franchise that has worked in movies, when so many others have not?
Paul W. S. Anderson: A lot of video game movies are made by directors who don't know the video games they are based on from a hole in the head.
A Proper Journalist: If I might interject here - how can you make a claim like that when you set the third Resident Evil movie in a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland? I Mean, where the fuck is THAT in the games?
Paul W. S. Anderson: Well, y'see, the great thing about the games is that they never repeat themselves...
A Proper Journalist: Except for Resident Evil 3, which borrows locations from Resident Evil 2, obviously.
Paul W. S. Anderson: Yeah...
A Proper Journalist: And one of the Gun Survivor games, of course, which retold the events of Code Veronica.
Paul W. S. Anderson: ...Right, of course.
A Proper Journalist: And The Umbrella Chronicles, The Darkside Chronicles, the GameCube remake, and The Mercenaries 3D.
Paul W. S. Anderson: ...
A Proper Journalist: But apart from those titles, obviously, no repetition or 'owt.
MCV's Chris Dring: Can I have my interviewee back, please? I haven't asked him where he gets his ideas from yet.
A Proper Journalist: He's all yours, mate.

Rather last minute, but it turns out I won’t be home for much of the day tomorrow and so won’t be anywhere near a computer until 6pm PST at the earliest.
BUT! I encourage you to send in tips, links, articles, hats, bands, hatbands, stands, band stands, and clamps. The best way to do this is to send me an email. You can also hit me up on the Twitters if you like.
Oh, and later this...

Hello, everybody!

A to Jump - Saturday, 12:30pm-1pm PST (8:30pm-9pm in the UK) [ Listen on PC ▪ Listen on Mac ] To celebrate 8-bit Weapon’s live show at Obselete tonight, Ben Paddon and Nick Simberg dedicate the entire show to bands who were in some way influenced by videogames. Which is nice. Isn’t that nice? I think it’s nice.

EuroGamer writes about Diablo III "real money...
This isn’t your standard VG247/CVG style “we didn’t notice we’d posted about this before - whoops!” double-post. This is EuroGamer’s Oli Welsh writing about the same thing twice at the same time. One version of the story is built around quotes from Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson, and the other… well, doesn’t isn’t.
The same basic...
