EGM reports that Replay Games has tapped Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe to participate in the revival of the graphic adventure series, with HD remakes of the first seven games planned.

Kotaku, Michael McWhertor: Leisure Suit Larry Returns to the Land of the Lounge Lizards in 2012 [October 10th, 2011]

For those of you either too young to know (or, like Michael McWhertor, too disinterested to do the proper research), here is a list of the first seven Leisure Suit Larry games:

  • Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards
  • Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places)
  • Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals
  • Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (remake)
  • Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work
  • Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Ship Out!
  • Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail!

That’s right, you heard it here first, folks - Replay Games are going to remake Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards not once, but twice. Either that or they’re remaking Leisure Suit Larry 4, which will be a tad difficult considering it doesn’t exist. Sierra said they weren’t going to make Larry 4, and they didn’t - they skipped to 5 instead. Although one could argue that the remake of Larry 1 is technically the fourth game.

Of course, McWhertor could also be referring to Softporn Adventure, a text adventure game that directly inspired the creation of Leisure Suit Larry (and was in fact included with some later re-release bundles of the games). I won’t rule out the possibility that Replay would actively remake a text adventure and release it for, say, the Xbox 360, but it’s not likely, is it?

Anyway, Michael McWhertor is an idiot. That’s more or less the point I wanted to get across.
