There’s no doubt about it, the DS is on it’s last legs. You had a good run, buddy. Three revamps and hundreds of millions of units sold is better than most of us could ask for.

Destructoid: A look at what may be the last upcoming DS games [September 29th, 2010]

The Game Boy still had titles coming out for it after the Game Boy Color hit the market. The GB Color had titles when the Advance hit. The Advance had titles coming out as recently as two years ago. New PS2 games are still coming out, almost four years since the PS3 hit the market (although admittedly many titles from the last year or so have been ports of Wii titles like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Ghostbusters: The Video Game).

And lest we forget, of course, new NES games were still coming out a good couple of years into the SNES’s life.

There’s a pattern there - successful systems tend to have a life cycle that extends a year or so into the life of its successor. I don’t think we’ve seen the last original DS titles just yet, especially considering how many DS units there are in peoples’ hands worldwide.
